How do I create, start, and stop a class?

Managing an instructor-led class

Creating and running OrasiLabs classes is a very easy process.  There is a built-in wizard to help you create classes, and then it just takes 2 clicks to start a class.

Creating a New Class

OrasiLabs has a built-in Add Class Wizard that walks you through the information you need to create a new instructor-led class.  There are 4 simple steps in the wizard, including:

  1. Give the class a name and a schedule

  2. Add the lab template(s) to be used as the basis for the student labs

  3. Add the participants (instructors and students)

  4. Add conferencing links, libraries, and custom notifications (all optional)

For step-by-step examples about using the Add Class Wizard, see the related article Creating an Instructor-led Class.

Starting a Scheduled Class

To start a scheduled instructor-led class is a simple 1-2-3 process.  Once the class is started, you can use the My Labs tab to teach and the Student Labs tab to monitor the student.  The steps to start a class include:

  1. Open the class from the Class List

  2. Allow students to login by selecting Begin Session

  3. Start the student labs with the Start Action For All Labs

For step-by-step examples about starting a class, see the related article Delivering an Instructor-led Class.

Stopping a Class

Once you're finished teaching for the day, you can stop the class by just reversing the actions in the Starting a Scheduled Class section above.  This will immediately log all students off, so make sure no one is still using their lab at the time.  When the labs are stopped, an automatic backup point is made and students will resume from this backup when the lab is started next.  On the last day of class, you will also want to Finish Class, which permanently closes the class and prepares it to be automatically deleted (after 14 days).

So, to stop a class, follow these steps:

  1. Stop the student labs with the Stop Action For All Labs

  2. Log the students off by selecting End Session

  3. If it's the last day of a class, Finish Class to mark everything for deletion.  If it's not the last day for a repeating class, skip this step until the last day.

For step-by-step examples about stopping a class, see the related article Delivering an Instructor-led Class.
