Rollback Class Labs

Modified on Wed, 31 Jan at 3:43 PM

Instructor and student labs can be rolled back to a previous restore point.

Before we cover how to rollback a class lab, let's first understand what class lab restore points are and when they are created.

Class Lab Restore Points

Let's face it - students learn by DOING things, but they also learn by BREAKING things.   When this happens, returning a lab resource to a previous restore point may be the best option to undo any breaking changes that were made to a class lab.

Restore point are available for each resource (server, database) within a class lab and are automatically created when class labs are paused or stopped. These restore points will be created with a name representing the date/time/timezone stamp of  when the lab was paused or stopped.  Each resource will also have a restore point that matches the current published state of the lab template. Class lab resources can be rolled back to any available restore point if needed.

Restore points can be seen by selecting Rollback (circular icon) next to a lab under Lab Management when viewing a class.

The example below shows a student's class lab that contains two servers.  Each server has a Current State, restore points for each time the lab was paused or stopped and a Published State restore point which matches the last time the lab template was published.

Rollback to a Previous Restore Point

You can rollback a resource to any previous restore point. To rollback to a previous restore point, first select Rollback (circular icon) under Lab Management when viewing a class.

Restore points for each lab resource will be displayed. Rollback Here can be selected to return the lab template resource to a previous state. NOTE: Labs must be stopped for the Rollback Here option to be enabled.

Rolling back to a previous restore point is irreversible and will undo any configuration changes made since the selected restore point was created.

In this example, server-b was rolled back to the previous restore point and any restore points created since then were deleted. The state of server-a was not modified.
