There are times you may want to connect to the student's lab while the student is not connected.  This could be necessary for an instructor to troubleshoot the lab or to update the student's lab before class starts.   

Keep in mind that if the student is already connected and you need to access their lab, you can use the lock icon found in the top left when viewing the student's running instance.  The steps below are for situations where the student is not connected to their lab. 

 The following steps can be used to connect to the student's lab when the student is not connected.  

   2. Navigate to Student Labs and add the student's running lab to the watch list. 

   3. Click Connect? on the thumbnail to connect to the student lab. 

    4. You will be connected to the running instance.  While you are connected, you will see "Student not Connected" and a red box around the thumbnail as  indicators that you are connected to the student's lab.  You can now expand the thumbnail and perform any necessary tasks. 

   5.  When finished, use the X in the top left to disconnect.  Removing the thumbnail from the watch list or navigating away from the class will also disconnect.   

Keep in mind that If the class has been started, students will also have access to their lab.  Students that attempt to connect while you are connected, will see a message that you are connected to their machine and they will be able to take control.  Once they connect, you will be disconnected from the student lab.   If you want to prevent student's being able to connect, do not start the class or pause the class if it is already running.  Students can not access labs if the class is not running. 

 Any activity performed while you are connected to the student lab will generate billing charges under the student's name since you are connected to their lab.
