How to create optional class email notifications for class instructors and students.

Notifications Overview

Class notifications are custom emails that can be sent to class students, class instructors, or both.  These notifications are optional and can be created for both instructor-led classes and on-demand classes.  The notifications can be scheduled and sent before a class begins, sent immediately, or sent after a class has ended. The notifications can be set up while the class is being created or when editing an existing class.

Setting up Notifications during Class Creation

Classes are created using a five-step class creation wizard.  Notifications can be set up on “Step 4: Other Settings”.  For each message created you will enter the email Subject, the email Message, the email Send indicating when you want the email sent, the email Send To indicating you want to send the notifications to all students, or all instructors or all, meaning everyone.  After completing the notification information click on Schedule Notification to send emails based on when the email is to be sent.

You can insert dynamic fields in the notification message if desired.  Insert Fields has a list of available dynamic fields.

Once the notification is scheduled it is listed at the end of the notifications panel.  You can create as many notifications as necessary for a class using the Edit Class feature.  Notice in the example below, the dynamic field for the recipient’s first name was added to the notification message.  Notice also that you can edit or delete a notification after it is created.

Step 5: Finalize of the class creation wizard is where you finalize the class, making sure everything is as planned.  When you click on Submit, the class is created and will be listed in the Class Index Page.  Remember that you can edit a class as necessary after class creation including adding additional notifications if desired.

Note:  You can expand the viewing area of the message by pulling down on the bottom right corner of the message:
