Deploying Libraries

How to copy library files into class labs.

A Library is a named, reusable set of files.  Libraries are attached to classes and then used to quickly deploy files to participant labs and student classrooms.  Since libraries are pre-loaded into the cloud account, there is no wait time for files to upload.  Instead, they are injected almost instantaneously into the running labs and classrooms.

Automatically Available Libraries

If a library is added to the class and marked as Automatically Available, the library files will automatically be copied into their intended locations (labs or the student classroom).

When the library files are deployed to participant labs, a folder is created on the lab desktop named "Class Files" and a subdirectory within that folder is created for each named library associated with the class.  The library files are then copied into the corresponding subdirectories.

When the library files are deployed to student classrooms,  a folder for each library is created on the Class Materials tab of the student classroom.

Selectively Deploying Libraries

If Automatically Available is disabled for a library when it is added to a class, the library files are not automatically injected into their intended location.   Instead, the instructor can choose when to copy the library files.  This might be done so that the instructor can control when students have access to each set of files (e.g., practice exercises).  When desired, the instructor can select Send to lab/Send to Classroom (represented as a paper airplane icon next to the library name) and the library files will automatically be sent to their location.

Please note that if a class lab is Paused or Stopped when the instructor selects Send to lab, that lab will not receive the associated files.  In that case, the next time the "missed" lab is started and running, the instructor can choose the Send to lab a second time.  Labs that have already received the library files will not get duplicates.

Removing Libraries from Labs or Classroom

Once libraries have been deployed to the class labs or classroom, the instructor can choose to remove them with the Remove icon (represented as a trash can icon next to the library name).  This will delete the library subdirectory and all files within it from all running labs or classrooms.  Note that if a lab is paused or stopped when the instructor selects Remove Items from lab, the library files will not be removed from that lab.

Additionally, in rare cases, the instructor may wish to remove all library files in order to "reset" the class labs and student classrooms.  This can be done with Remove All Library Files.  As with the previous option, this will remove all library files from any running labs and classrooms.  Paused or stopped labs, however, will not be affected.
