Chat with other participants from the chat tab or the control panel.

Classroom Chat Overview

The ability to chat with other participants in the class can be enabled in instructor-led classes with the Allow Chat class setting.  This setting is available when creating and editing classes.

The available options are:

  • All - this is the default and will allow all instructors and students to send chat messages. Messages can be sent from instructors and students to the entire class and to individual participants.

  • Instructor - allows chat but does not allow student-to-student direct messages to be sent. Students can send messages to the entire class and to any instructor.

  • None - chat is disabled for the entire class. This can be helpful if you are using an external conferencing tool that offers chat.

When enabled, instructors and students have the ability to send chat messages while the class is In Session. Messages can be sent from the chat tab classroom and from the collapsible control panel at the top of the classroom page.  Chat is not available if the class is not In Session.

Instructors also have a Clear Chat option which can be used to permanently clear all chat messages from the class.   Participants can still create new chat messages but existing chat messages will be permanently deleted for all participants.
