Change Inactivity Timeout for a Class

Modified on Tue, 13 Aug at 3:37 PM

Question:

Customer asks: Can we extend the timeframe when the Labs automatically Save?
We broke for lunch, and one of the student's lab is Saving, and it takes forever to get the student back online.

Analysis:

The class gets the value of inactivity timeout that was set on the original template.  By default, as new templates are created, the Inactivity Timeout will be ON and set to auto-pause after 60 minutes of no user activity. Unless this setting is changed, server resources in this lab template and any class labs based on this template will automatically pause after 60 minutes of inactivity. Labs that auto-pause will automatically stop after 2 days of inactivity.  So, that explains why, after a one-hour lunch break, you came back to labs in the process of pausing.

This article explains how to manipulate that timeout when you create the template: Lab Template Inactivity Timeout Settings.  However, there is also a setting on the class to change the value.

Answer:

On the edit class page there is a button in the lab managers section to override the inactivity timeouts for the lab managers in that class.
