Running a Connection Check

How to check network compatibility.

When students are enrolled into a class, an invitation email will automatically be sent to the student's email listed in the class enrollment.  The body of the email includes the appropriate course details, a button link to test the student's internet connection, and a button link to join the class.  Attached to the email is a PDF file with step-by-step login directions as well as an electronic calendar invitation (.ics file).

Connection Check

Before logging into the class for the first time, students are encouraged to run a simple connection test using the button link in the invitation email (in the "Step - 1" section).  This will open a new browser window that runs a quick check of all of the networking components needed by OrasiLabs.  This test is broken down into two primary components; first, checking the browser compatibility and, second, checking the network compatibility.

Browser Compatibility

After selecting Connection Check in the invitation email, the browser version is first checked for compatibility.  For a complete list of compatible browsers, please see the article What browsers does OrasiLabs support?.  To check the network compatibility, select Connection Check in the browser page.

Network Compatibility

While checking the network compatibility, the browser pane on the right display a line graphic of a rocket ship scrolling upward.  If the rocket ship displays properly, that means all required network characteristics are compatible with OrasiLabs.

Confirming the Connection Test

If everything worked as expected, select Yes to the "Did you see the rocket launch?" prompt and a confirmation dialog will be displayed.  The browser page can now be closed.  The successful connection test will be recorded in the OrasiLabs class and instructors will be able to see which students did complete the process.

If there were any problems encountered during the connection check, select No to the "Did you see the rocket launch?" prompt to display a list of possible causes.  You can also use this page to Contact Support to report and debug the issue.  For tips on identifying the cause of the problem, please see the article Troubleshooting a Lab Connection
